Associate Director, Individual Giving Bread for the City
Presentation Summary: How do you build an accessible, inclusive, and equitable fundraising program from the inside out? As fundraisers, we have a responsibility to take a harder look at how we position our organizations, our work, and ourselves in today’s society. Join Avalon and our DEI Consultant, Alex McNeill, as we explore with you the intersection of anti-racist principles and fundraising best practices, both for the clients we serve and the staff who bring our organization’s mission to fruition. We’ll discuss decision-making opportunities to disrupt the status quo of unconscious bias, expectations, and actions in order to generate options, and enact changes that advance equity and inclusion — and share examples of this work. We will also hear from one of Avalon’s nonprofit partners about how their organization has championed this work, including successes, struggles, and lessons learned.
Learning Objectives:
Apply strategies and thought processes to reshape your direct marketing approaches with an anti-racist lens.
Recognize the most common barriers to inclusivity in your direct response fundraising efforts and how to make simple changes to avoid them.
Employ best practices and elements of DEI-informed and anti-racist fundraising to implement in your organization.
